We know cats and dogs don’t always get along and that a visit to the vet can be stressful, especially for cats and their owners.
That’s why we’re working with the Australian Society of Feline Medicine (ASFM) – which is part of the International Society of Feline Medicine (ISFM) to attain ‘feline-friendly’ accreditation – a rigorous scheme that helps to reduce stress in cats when they attend a vet centre.
We already offer separate cat hospitalisation facilities and designated cats-only consulting times as required under the scheme.
Accreditation will ensure we also demonstrate the following attributes:
understand the unique needs of cats and have processes in place to make veterinary visits more comfortable for cats.
understand how to approach and handle cats in a gentle, empathic and caring manner
have a separate area in the waiting room and provide each carrier with a light fabric cover containing synthetic feline pheromones to relax your cat
have the necessary specialised equipment to investigate and treat feline diseases
have a high standard of facilities and care for hospitalised cats
Recognising the unique challenges for cats visiting a vet, we at Bedford-Dianella Vet Centre are proud to be part of the ISFM’s Cat Friendly Clinic Standard.
